Straight Shooting

Last weekend, the glorious sunshine and extended holiday from work got me thinking. Summer is on its way, and although we’re experiencing a slight hiccup now what with all this rain, I am certain that the sun will get his hat on and come out to play once more. This made me think…what do I want to be wearing this summer? Talk to anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you of my love for a patterned trew, and for SS13 fashion houses have been straight shooting when it comes to pattern. Stripes were everywhere…from Oscar de la Renta in a fabulous striped trouser suit, to a swirly striped chiffon dress and tights from Bora Aksu. There’s more great news on this trend too-it’s super slimming! We all know the secret, just as well as Marc Jacobs below, that vertical stripes elongate and streamline the body, so double up-wear it top and bottom, for even more pound-dropping power!

Of course if you are partial to a horizontal stripe, then there were an abundance of those on the catwalk too! Blue pared with white is a usual Spring/Summer staple, conjuring thoughts of yachts and sand, beaches and a cool sea breeze, Haizhen Wang updated this look with sleek lines and a thick black belt to cinch in the waist. Or if you’re looking for something a little different, take some inspiration from Preen and mix your stripes with anything and everything that you can find! Think of yourself as a patchwork blanket filled with snakeskin, spots, block colours in an array of textures for a really edgy summer look.

To really liven up this trend, why not don a brightly coloured stripe with heaps of accessories for a look that’s bound to turn heads this SS13! Take inspiration from Dolce and Gabanna – I just love those chandelier earrings! What do you think of this for summer, will you be incorporating a stripe into your outfit?
